Beautiful Yang Shou

After another wrestling match with our enormous cases and a bit of creative checking in! we flew down to Guilin, then bus to Yang Shou where the iconic limestone gorges and karst scenery is.

We had 4 days here with activities including a lovely cycle along the river valley through the mountains, a cookery lesson, a tea sampling trip, a calligraphy lesson and the oddest birthday cake I have ever had! All great fun!

On my birthday meeting a lady who was in a Chinese cultural show competition!
The birthday cake - it had a doll in the middle!

The scenery was spectacular

Cycling was a great way to see the area - there had been a lot of rain so the larger river trips were cancelled.

One bamboo raft did make its way quietly down the river -no fuss no drama no wet feet!
We climbed Moon Hill where the views were spectacular

Then on to the tea plantation. Where the secrets of oolong, white, green and black tea were explained and tasted - I am definitely for black tea!

Great Chinglish!

Malcolm even found his perfect vehicle - he was fascinated!
Health and Safety? - never heard of it!!

Shona tried Chinese bamboo painting and the others tried writing with a brush

Then other skills enhancement with a cookery lesson where you have to eat the items you cook!
Great fun and a lovely feast!

Some final views of Yang Shou valley
